Not a bad run

I couldn’t tell you that today was a bad run … I walked more than I ran. My heart rate was way too high even when walking …

But let me try and better my mood by listing the positive points first …

It did not rain. It was not cold. There wasn’t even a gale force wind in the air. It was not dark. I didn’t need a headlamp … The pebbles were mixed with enough sand to give some grip.

I made it to the end of the beach …

I saw two of my favorite dogs …

I made it home …

… ok that was it … I can’t think of anything else that was positive.

If you only want to read about running – stop reading here …

Now I don’t think my lack of fitness can justify today. I ate well … maybe I can improve my hydration levels. I think the reason, is the situation the world is in right now, my reaction to it and the fact that I am scared shitless of what might be happening in the future. During my run I remembered my visit to the KZ Dachau (KZ = concentration camp) when I was a kid. Has the world forgotten?

Am I exaggerating? I don’t think so …

I wish I had time to dwell on this, but I had the whole weekend and it didn’t help. I have work to get done … work that might or might not be paid … which is actually one of the things that really really ticks me off right now … time is the most valuable thing a person has. Up until the election, bad business practices were just that … bad business practices. If you don’t pay a contractor, it was not OK. Now … we live in a different world and I don’t think morale will get better anytime soon … and it feels like we’re loosing … it’s so hard to watch bad people succeed, because they don’t care about the costs and only their own benefit.

Bad run – beautiful sunrise

Managed to get through 28 (yeah I even shortened the short run) minutes of stumbling along the beach.

This was one of my worst runs to date …

There are loads of possible reasons, but it won’t help getting into it. I think the only way to get over it, is to run through it and look forward to better days. At least with this bad one in the books, the good ones will rock and shine even more.

Uhm …

Heartrate of 150 while walking on flats and 138 while running?

That’s right. Wind in Ireland is something …

I did however warm up longer and this helps to not have the spike in the beginning. I also did this yesterday and it helped. Only managed 50 minutes … rain and wind would be the best excuse, but reality is that I had arrived at my destination and I am not going to run around the block just for the sake of it.

Rain was quite bad, my inovs are now well broken in and last but not least I haven’t felt my knee or any other niggle for a while now. So as bad as thisslow running torture seems most of the time, it works and I can keep on running.

Gotta have bad runs to appreciate the good ones

This is what I tell myself being back from my ‘long run’ which I cut short, starring at my bloody knee. And no … I’m not cursing my knee, my knee is bleeding.

No nothing serious, just a scratch, but it ended my otherwise quite bad slog 40 minutes earlier than planned – better safe than sorry!

Not sure what was wrong, just one of those rare bad days I guess, but the only thing that got me out of the house was switching into my running gear and then it was too warm to stay inside …

The weather was great and the tide was perfect. I had a couple of moments when I did enjoy myself and as I got lost in my thoughts I hit an icy patch when crossing a wooden bridge … well … glad nothing serious happened. 50 minutes is better than nothing at all and you know what? My mood is terrific now, despite the bloody knee!

Oh and I forgot to mention the best thing: I actually managed a new lowest average heartrate of 138 for those 50 minutes. Times are changing!
